Samsung Electronics Supports Fabless Design with Cloud

Launch SAFE-Cloud Services

Samsung Electronics announced on the 15th that it will launch SAFETM-Cloud service to provide design convenience to fabless customers. Samsung Electronics held 'Samsung Foundry Forum 2019' at the Santa Clara Marriott Hotel on the 14th (local time) and introduced SAFE-Cloud, a new customer support program.

Samsung Electronics explained that SAFETM-Cloud services are conducted with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft (Microsoft), Cadence, and Synopsys (EDA) companies, providing a cloud environment with proven speed and security. Amazon Web Services and Microsoft offer a cloud environment at SAFE, while Cadence and Synopsis offer design tools such as cloud and EDA.

Through SAFE-Cloud services, fabless customers can reduce investment costs and produce semiconductors faster by using process design kits (PDK), design methodologies (DM), automated design tools (EDA, electronic design automation), and Intellectual Property (library, IP) provided by Samsung Electronics and its partners.

"SAFE-Cloud is a prepared environment that can focus only on designing new products because it is equipped with automation tools and process information in advance," said Jung Kyu-dong, CEO of GAONCHIPS, a South Korean fabless company. "The semiconductor design environment using the cloud will provide more business opportunities for small and medium fabless companies."

More than 800 global fabless customers and partners participated in the forum to share semiconductor technologies that will lead the era of the fourth industrial revolution, including artificial intelligence, 5G, autonomous driving and the Internet of Things.

"It is very important not only for advanced technologies in semiconductor processes, production, and packaging, but also for foundry companies, customers, and partners to trust each other and share their visions," said Chung Eun-seung, president of Samsung Electronics' foundry business division. "We are very happy to share Samsung Electronics' technological achievements and goals through this forum."

Samsung Electronics plans to expand organic cooperation with its partners through the "Foundry Forum 2019" to be held in five countries around the world to realize its vision as the "most trusted foundry."
