On the spot instead of the inauguration...Moon Seung-wook "Semiconductor Tax and Fund Support"

Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Seung-wook visited fabless companies located in Pangyo, Seongnam, for the second day of his inauguration and focused on field trips. This is because they think that response to changes in the global industrial environment is more important than the inauguration of the minister.

"Recently, the supply shortage of semiconductors for vehicles is spreading to the IT (information technology) industry and the international situation surrounding the semiconductor industry is rapidly spreading," Minister Moon said at a meeting with the system semiconductor industry at Pangyo Silicon Mater in Seongnam on the 7th. "We have skipped the inauguration ceremony of the minister because we believe it is important to identify and check the current state of the semiconductor industry."

System semiconductor companies such as Silicon Mitus, RaonTec, GAONCHIPS, Alpha Solutions, and Mobilint attended the meeting.

Silicon Mitus, which Minister Moon visited, is the first company in Asia to localize PMIC (Power Management Integrated Chip) for displays in 2008. It is leading South Korean technologies in mobile, small battery, and display PMIC. Recently, businesses related to OLED (light emitting diode) and AVN (audio and video navigation) that are used in cars are also in progress.

At the meeting, system semiconductor companies suggested to the government that they should expand the quantity and quality of professionals, expand investment in R&D and support demand linkage, support capacity building of design houses and IP-specialized companies, and support infrastructure for start-ups.

In response, Minister Moon said, "The growth of small and medium-sized fabless companies is important for a strong country in comprehensive semiconductor industries. To this end, we will reinforce infrastructure facilities such as AI Semiconductor Design Support Center in Pangyo, where design support centers are located, and transform Pangyo into a cradle of fabless start-ups and growth by providing free semiconductor design SW (software)."

"We will expand financial, taxation, and funding related to semiconductor investments," Minister Moon said. "We will prepare a plan to focus on not only cutting-edge cutting-edge processes but also 8-inch foundry process investments in order to actively respond to lack of foundry supply such as lack of semiconductors for vehicles."

Minister Moon said, "We will expand our semiconductor contract department, establish a joint department, and expand innovation sharing university in order to supply semiconductor design personnel in the fabless industry in a stable manner," adding, "We will include specific details related to K-semiconductor belt strategy that will be announced soon."
