GAONCHIPS, a chipless company specializing in the development of system semiconductors, is aiming for an initial public offering (IPO) in the first half of next year.

Venture capitalists who bet on GAONCHIPS growth potential more than a year ago are expected to get an early opportunity to recover their investment.

"Recently, the role of design houses like GAONCHIPS in the system semiconductor market has been gradually increasing," said an official from a GAONCHIPS investor.

"We decided to invest in GAONCHIPS because it is a Samsung Electronics Design Solution Partner (DSP), has high credibility with the foundry, and is one of the few design houses in Korea with mass production sales to Samsung."

He also noted that the system semiconductor market is expanding rapidly.

"As the foundry market grows and differentiates, the roles previously played by fabless companies are being transferred to design houses," said the official.

"As the difficulty and cost of chip design increases rapidly, we expect design houses to share more in design. In this regard, we see the growth potential of GAONCHIPS with its technical capabilities."
