Samsung Electronics to Hold 'Samsung Foundry Forum 2018 Korea'
Chung Eun-seung, president of Samsung Electronics' foundry business division, delivered a keynote speech on "To be the most trusted foundry" and announced, "With SAFE partners, the Samsung foundry will make the ideas of fabless customers who will lead the era of the fourth industrial revolution a reality."
Samsung Electronics held "Samsung Foundry Forum 2018 Korea" at the Grand Inter Continental Parnas Hotel in Seoul on the 5th and introduced cutting-edge foundry solutions and enhanced support programs for fabless customers in Korea.
With some 300 South Korean fabless customers and partners attending the forum, Samsung Electronics introduced a high-tech process roadmap ranging from 3-nano in 2020 and announced that it will fully support the growth of South Korean fabless customers' businesses through advanced foundry solutions.
Samsung Electronics is planning to increase support for 12-inch (300mm) wafer-based process Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio and MPW (Multi Project Wafer, method of producing different types of semiconductor products together in one wafer in the form of a foundry) to improve customer product completeness and convenience.
In addition, 8 inches (200 mm) also provides optimized process technology and design infrastructure for various applications.
In particular, Samsung Electronics will provide Arm's 'Artisan® Physical IP Platform' in 7-nano and 5-nano EUV processes to help fabless customers develop high-performance SoC products with 3GHz operating speed.
In order to provide optimal solutions to fabless customers, Samsung Electronics is going to expand support for MPW programs by adding Alpha Holdings, GAONCHIPS, and HanaTec, which specialize in semiconductor design services, as a partner of 'SAFE (Samseong Advanced Foundry Ecosystem, a program that helps design outstanding products effectively by strengthening cooperation between partners and customers'.
Customers can design faster and easier using Samsung Electronics' various foundry process Intellectual Property, and get support from its partners through SAFE program.
"Since the independence of the foundry business last year, cooperation with domestic fabless customers has been greatly strengthened, and the number of domestic customers has doubled," said Lee Sang-hyun, executive director of strategic marketing team at Samsung Electronics' foundry business division. "We will make efforts to grow fabless customers by further strengthening the design infrastructure that customers want this year."
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is planning to hold 'Samsung Foundry Forum' in Tokyo in September and Munich in October to strengthen cooperation with global customers.
