Launch 'Compass', an online platform for fostering system semiconductors
A 'field communication meeting' will also be held at the Pangyo Design Support Center on the 31st.
South Korean Government is going to launch 'COMPASS', an online platform to foster South Korea's system semiconductor industry.
On the 31st, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (hereinafter the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy) announced that it will hold a 'field communication meeting' at the system semiconductor design support center in Pangyo from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and announce the official launch of a compass for solidarity and cooperation between semiconductor demand and suppliers.
Compass was prepared as a follow-up to the "Artificial Intelligence Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy" announced by the government in October last year. This is available on the website of the Semiconductor Industry Association and provides services such as ▲System semiconductor product search ▲System semiconductor development request and matching ▲ Industry information consulting.

To revitalize the compass, the government will plan a separate R&D project to support demand-linked projects matched in the compass. It also plans to check the current status of the system semiconductor design support center, which opened in June last year, and its future operation plans.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Energy, the design support center has provided office space for start-ups and used design and measurement equipment for a total of 13 companies. Seven more companies will be selected by the end of this year to support a total of 20 companies.
In particular, in the case of MPW (Multi-Project Wafer) cost support projects that ease the burden of manufacturing prototypes of fabless (specialized semiconductor design companies), it provided about 1.8 billion won to 34 cases, including 27 cases last year and 7 cases this year. It is planning to provide additional 2 billion won by end of this year.

"The semiconductor industry is becoming increasingly important as a strategic weapon and a rice of industry economically," said Vice Industry Minister Park Jin-kyu. "Our government will actively strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem by providing preemptive support to the foundry, strengthening solidarity and cooperation between supply companies, preempting AI semiconductors, next-generation power semiconductor markets, and expanding human resources development, and achieve a leap into a comprehensive semiconductor powerhouse."
Meanwhile, Lee Sang-ki, vice president of DB HiTec, Jung Kyu-dong, CEO of GAONCHIPS, Park Joon-young, CEO of UX Factory, Ko Jae-gan, CEO of Ramschip, and Jeon Jung-hoon, head of Solid View Research Institute, will attend the meeting to suggest to the government the reinforcement of infrastructure for start-ups, the expansion of demand linkage, and the establishment of comprehensive semiconductor support policies.
