Nextchip, a subsidiary of fabless company NC&, announced on the 19th that it has begun developing 'Apache6' System On Chip (SoC) for Advanced Driver Support System (ADAS). It is planning to release prototypes in the second half of next year.

Apache6 is a follow-up product of Apache5 that has NPU (Near Network Processing Unit) exclusively for deep learning. It is designed to strengthen AVP (Automatic valet parking) and ADAS functions compared to existing products. In order to increase its computational ability and image data processing ability, it is going to be equipped with various specialized functions such as CPU (High Performance Central Processing Unit), GPU (Graphical Processing Unit), NPU, and others.

ARM's new automatic IP will be introduced in Apache6 for the first time in Korea. The IP of the ARM applicable to Apache6 consists of the coretex-A65AE core CPU, the Mali-G78AE GPU, and the subsystem IP. Apache6 supports ISO26262, which is a semiconductor standard for vehicles. It will be designed to meet functional safety requirements above minimum ASIL-B. It will perform functions such as multi-camera input AVM for AVP, deep learning-based object recognition, self-location using segmentation, VSLAM, and tracking of driving routes. Nextchip said it is working closely with ARM to develop Apache6.

Apache6 will be produced from Samsung Electronics' foundry through 14-nano process. GAONCHIPS, a DSP (Design Solution Partner) company, is in charge of design design.

"We are going to apply the IP of ARM optimized for image processing, sensing technology, and automatic of Nextchip," said Kim Kyung-soo, CEO of Nextchip. "Apache6 will be reborn as a fusion solution with different sensors such as radar, radar, ultrasonic waves, etc. to solidify its leading position in the ADAS market."

Meanwhile, Nextchip explained that it has secured a Japanese tier 1 customer and is going to mass-produce it soon. Apache5, which is applied with artificial intelligence (AI) function for the first time, introduced a prototype at the end of last year. Apache4 is a 28-nano process and Apache5 is a 14-nano process-based SoC.
